MY MUSIC EXPERIENCE AT YIS

By Pavlo, YIS Student

Learning at YIS is always fun. One day I might have a math test, and the next I’m preparing for a drama performance. Beyond regular classes, YIS also offers exciting events like the Food Fair and school performances, so there’s always something happening on campus.

When a performance is coming up, you can feel the excitement everywhere. Music groups start forming, songs are discussed, and practice schedules fill quickly. I really enjoy performing at events like Studentainment and Play. Perform. Create. These experiences have helped me grow as a performer and feel more connected to the YIS community.

One of my favorite things to do is play guitar and sing with my band, Breaking Notes, alongside Yehan, Aki, Akira, Kodai, and Oliver. We first formed through Mr. Noonan’s Rock School idea and later changed our name. Performing together has helped us improve our skills and build stronger connections as a group.

YIS encourages students to follow what they enjoy. Events like Studentainment and Play. Perform. Create give students the chance to sing, act, and share their creativity. Performances are even recorded, so we can look back and see our progress.

One thing I always notice at YIS is how much music students listen to and enjoy. Whether it’s modern music or classic rock ’n’ roll, it’s still great music. I’ve seen so many students come together as a class or in small groups just to perform a single song, and that’s what I think is one of the many strengths of YIS. It’s what I believe makes our school different from others.

While distractions and busy schedules can be challenging, passion and commitment make a huge difference. One thing I always notice at YIS is how much students love music and enjoy coming together to perform. Whether you’re in Elementary, Middle, or High School, something exciting is always happening, and that’s what makes YIS special.
