Dear YIS Community,
On behalf of the YIS Board of Directors, I would like to express our deep gratitude for your support and the trust you place in us as stewards of the school’s mission. As a community-owned, non-profit international school, we are guided by a shared commitment to excellence in education and to the well-being of our students.
My association with YIS began in 1969 as a nursery student (at what is now ELC), on through graduating in the class of 1983, and now continues as a parent of a YIS student. Learning at YIS was, and continues to be, at the leading edge. Synthesiser Music with Mr. Becker, Computer Sciences with Mr. Burton, field trips to places as remote as Sado Island, all these have shaped me as a human being. In particular, my own work in Graphics and Robotics technologies can be fully traced back to the work I did in my Art and Design classes with Stelarc. The vision and foresight of YIS has been key to my own journey.
Joining the board has been my way of giving back and ensuring that students continue to have their lives transformed by this School. As the school evolves into the future and offers new pathways to students, it is my privilege to work with the community to ensure its ability to innovate and safeguard its sustainability. Each board member brings with them unique skills, experiences, and insights. In order to make these more visible to our community, we are launching a new initiative: Every month, one of our Board Members will reflect on their journey—what inspired them to join the Board, what they’ve learned, and how they see their role in shaping the school’s future.
I hope you will enjoy getting to know our Board Members through this initiative. These conversations allow us to exchange ideas, share insights, and continue working together to strengthen our school.
